Marianist Technical Institute is a distinguished Vocational Training Centre owned and operated by the Marianists of Eastern Africa. The institute is situated in Bombolulu area of Mombasa.
It is the then reigning Bishop of the Arch Diocese of Mombasa, Bishop Kirima who came up with the initial idea of establishing Marianist Technical Institute.in 1996, Bro. Peter Daino carried out a survey of the living condition of the youth in Mombasa. He identified three main common problems as follows: Unemployment, Drug Abuse and Prostitution.
It is from the above results that led to the birth of Marianist Technical Institute to offer training to young men and women in job skills needed for employment.
The college began by offering four courses such as: Hairdressing and Beauty, Catering, Carpentry and Welding & Fabrication. These courses were deemed fit to meet the immediate needs of the youth by providing them with job skills and making them start earning a living. About 97 students were enrolled to the program who later successfully went through the program to completion. At this level, the college had a total of eight staff members kick starting the program.
With time going, and with many people learning about the help that our college is offering, many youth got interested in our courses and applications for vacancies kept increasing yearly. With such a kind of increase, the management through the council decided to expand the institution by introducing many more helpful and relevant courses plus the staff.
